the filtered/ignore list user shows up in the open in the forum that I goto.
in fact all posts by this user go unfiltered from the looks of it.
the only thing different about their post is a green exclamation point beside their name. other wise their text is in the clear just like everyone else's.

the filter part of things does not work properly, as is the case in word link where the user posted and still shows up in the forum.

all i have done there is to add the user to the ignore list which seems not to work.

i have not changed any filter settings as of yet, i will go check those a bit later.

So you can see a post from your filtered user, without this text (regardless of the rating score) and you can see the text of their post?
This post has been filtered (rating: 0) and the user is on your ignore list, press here to view this thread without filtering

Remember, you can still see that the filtered user has posted - it doesn't become invisible.

looking over my filter settings i see i had 0 for both filter level and enforcement level. I have now set those to -25 and 5 respectively. doing this has now put the ignored user into a filter and i do not see his posts unless i click on the "here" button. so now i see the: This post has been filtered (rating: 1) and the user is on your ignore list, press here to view this thread without filtering

however i thought that the filter would block them out completely from being seen by me, not just filtered into a message that you could see anyway. this is good enough. thanks for you help folks.

The red 'x' function in the forum is not working AGAIN. There is a missing system setup parameter. It returns the following error:
[b]

Angus, are you saying there was a time when it WAS working? I already know it doesn't do anything. And there's nothing a moderator can do to change that. So the issue doesn't belong in a moderator contact thread.

...on the other hand, if you found something SO offensive that it warrents a red X, then THAT DOES belong in a moderator contact thread. Or, if you prefer, an EMail to the moderators.

Yes, it was working right after I complained last time, a few weeks ago.

I was going to give you credit for getting them to get it working, but <never mind>.

Isn't it your stated mission to report these things to the project?

It's broken, it's needs the setup completed, so REPORT IT! AGAIN!

Until they FIX IT.

No, that is not my stated mission. It is however something that I end up doing from time to time. I will ask them to look in to it, even though I'm quite certain it's never done anything, and I do not feel it is a feature that is really needed at present. There's only been one user, just in the past few weeks that has required any moderation.

...and by the way, I would do the same even if you did not use all the red ink, CAPS, and exclaimation points.

This post was the end of a LONG "discussion" on forum use and methods of reporting offensive posts in confidence (without giving out-of-project moderators the user's private email address).

Perhaps you should read the 30 or 45 days of earlier posts in that thread to figure out why this is such a sensitive topic.

Oh, and BTW, it's "ARCHIVE", not "ARCHIEVE"

Thanks for the link. I had asked about the red X when I began as a moderator and was told otherwise. As I said, I'll ask that it be investigated. In the meantime, moderators delete obscene or threatening posts on sight anyway.

With the new version of the forum server code, I was even able to change the misspelling in the thread title (gosh, I HOPE it didn't EMail EVERYONE in that thread about a single character deletion). Note, we cannot change the content of another user's post, but we can now change thread titles.

Hearing no further comments on the issues about filtered users and filter thresholds, I'll plan to move the posts related to that topic to the archive tomorrow.

I've just been informed by David Kim, that the red X is now enabled, and received an EMail at the moderator's contact EMail address from such a clicking of the red X. Thus confirming it's functionality.

Important note: The notification sent to the moderators when the X is pressed is NOT entirely anonymous. The user that took that action is identified by the system. However, the user's EMail address is not reveiled, just their Rosetta user number.

Thank you. It's nice to have that functionality back.

I wouldn't have it any other way!

i think you should create a separate forum for account deletion and leave this one for other general requests/complaints etc.

Q. Why am I getting a 'Reason: Access Violation (0xc0000005) error'? *

A. An error occurred somewhere on the computer, it could have been BOINC or Rosetta@Home or any programme that your computer was doing at the time. This is not a Rosetta@Home specific error, as far as I am aware it happens, on occasion, in all of the BOINC applications. Keep Rosetta@Home in memory and ignore this problem if it's not getting out of hand.

The above answer is noy quite correct. I was having many task terminating with that kind of errors. Turning off the screen savers mode fixed it.

I believe that the driver for the graphic card might be in cause. Maybe an update of the driver will do. I will let you know.

YMG thanks for pointing that out. I haven't seen such errors. The link in the FAQ goes to Rosetta version 5.06, so it is pretty far back. Have you still been seeing this error occuring? Is that on a Windows PC?

sooo please please delete my rosetta account and info :)

(I say that because I like rosetta, but I can't help the community when I only go to the internet once a month)

Ethan's post below is the current official word on the subject of account deletion. You see user accounts go deeper then just stopping new work and deleting some user information, they are tied in to the message boards and the work units, and other databases in the BOINC system. So it requires some study.

Actually you COULD help the BOINC community by crunching climate prediction. Even if you only access the internet once a month. That's enough for that project.

How to "delete" your own BOINC user account

Click the "Participants" link above on this message board.
Click the change links for EMail address and other account info.
Modify or remove any information you do not wish to remain.
If you have created an account profile, click the link to delete it.

So you see, the "account" will still exist, but it won't have any of your personal information anywhere. Presumably at that point you would stop crunching under that account as well. Although it will still work. It's just that if you forget the EMail address and password for the account you won't be able to signon to post to the message boards.
