It is hard to know what the project has in mind about translations when the example is in Chinese... at least if you don't speak Chinese :) Perhaps David Kim could help define how a volunteer such as Maxx should proceed to aid with translations.

Maxx, there is a team of Francophones. I beleive they are from Quebec. Perhaps they could help you.

It would be most helpful if volunteers are able to make their own translated R@h web sites and provide us links to them like the "Chinese" and "Russian" sites. Eventually we would like to use the boinc translation mechanism, but it will take time and coordination with volunteers.

A very helpful volunteer, Bart Sobczak, has already provided Polish translations, but we currently don't have time to add them to the site.

If there are any volunteers interested, it would be VERY HELPFULL if someone could create an "en.po" english translation file that covers the important informative static text of our web site. Instructions can be found on the boinc web site at: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/translation.php.

Once "en.po" is established for R@h content, we can then use it for others to translate.

I would like to underline David's request for a .po file. I am a professional translator but admittedly a Win dinosaur and absolutely unfamiliar with Linux/GNU tools and their specific command language. I could translate this web site into German and would definitely do so, but I do not understand how to create the basic files for that process. So if anybody among the users here is already involved in creating .po files for other projects, your help would definitely be appreciated.

I would also be able to grab the web pages by "save as", translate them in my web page editor and then hand them over to somebody willing to implement the translations as a fully functional web site. Unfortunately I do not have the capacity to host the site myself (and am not at all familiar with the administrative effort that goes along with that).

Third possibility: if anybody here on the board is from Germany and can show me a way of creating those files, I would be very grateful as I am always willing to learn - I just find it hard to grab the process from what I read on the respective web pages. Programming and understanding the process of document creation has always been my weak point in using a computer.

I use the BoincManager.po files but I don't know how to create them:I just use them
As an exemple of the work to do, you can perhaps look at the Seti@home main web page: http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/seti_boinc_html/project_specific_translations/?f=h
Click on the en.po to see the english version of the web page, or on de.po to see the deutch version of the same page.
When surfing on the seti@home main web page, deutch users see the deutch version and english users see the english version, but I don't know how it works (except that I compile the .po files to have .mo files with Poedit when I send my translation of the BoincManager to the Boinc dev team)

What I don't know is how you define the msgid"" strings: IMOH, it must be done by a Rosetta programmer, it can't be done by us as the web pages are in php. Any idea ?

Since BOINC provides an en.po file for their standard project web site, only the R@h specific web pages need translation and these can be identified with page names starting with "rah_" and of course the homepage.

For anyone interested in making an R@h specific en.po file for the R@h specific web pages, you can make up the msgid's keeping in mind that it helps to have it describe the "msgstr." and that it cannot already be used. If multiple volunteers work on this, they will have to coordinate their efforts.

For example BOINC uses the following in their en.po file for the "apps.php" page which is our "Applications" page:

Once we have a en.po version to start with, we could modify it and our web pages to work with our site, then we could ask volunteers to translate the en.po file for other language .po files.

This is fantastic.

Hi,
I don't think it's a good idea to translate what I've done.
The .po file is not complete and translators will have to do their work again.
As I said previously, it's a first draft and lot of features are missing (I just noticed this morning that the footer part is missing also)
So first, I need help to improve the draft and when I think (or an administrator thinks) that the file is complete, everybody will translate it.

My problem is that I don't see the final result, like in a WYSIWYG html editor.
So if someone could tell me how to actually see the result of the .po file, it would help me a lot (I have EasyPHP installed, so I can see the php pages on my local server, if needed)
