I've noticed something odd with Rosetta. When a packet gets to about 10 minutes to go until completion it stays there for a while as the percentage of the packet processed continues to increase. This itself doesn't really concern me a lot. What DOES concern me is that I see that it still has, lets say 8% to go (for example) on processing the packet. If I shut down the BOINC application and the restart it, it suddenly says 100% complete and then moves to the next packet. So I'm wondering if the program just skipped processing the rest of the packet or what. iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 3GB RAM OS 10.4.11 |

I know there is some post-processing work that the application does right at the end. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to generate the output file and compress it. Then, it will say 100% done. |

This piggy-backs on Nicks concern. If there is an unexpected shut down of my computer the program stops what it is working on and then continues on to the next project I have cued up without finishing the computation it was working on. Are there check points or save points? How can I go back and finish out the coputations on the models that were not completed? |

Fear not. BOINC will get back to it. It is trying to follow your desired resource shares between projects. If you add projects faster then it can give them time, eventually the work approaches it's deadline for reporting back, and BOINC will temporarily overrule your resource shares to complete the work on time. It will later make up the time to the other projects. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |
