stupid dell mobo won't let me oc. some have suggested clockgen, but i wasn't able to get it to work. maybe i'll try again. sux having cpu that can go much higher than 2.4, but is limited by mobo. dunno, maybe i should try to find the cheapest mobo that will allow oc'ing a q6600 b3. |

lmao, dell...insert curseword here. I could have oc'd that amd, but same problem, the msi mobo would not let me do it and if I tried via the BIOS it would lock up. The current mobo is a ASUS something or another. Have to try and dredge up the documentation on it. The ASUS utility is letting me adjust the cpu speed and shows cpu temp and system temp. Cpu runs around 68-72C and the system stays around 51-52C. I think if I had a case fan I could push it a bit harder. stupid dell mobo won't let me oc. |

Its all that hot air being released from the white house and the capital. Btw, after pumping up my OC some more I found the max and crashed a few work units on due to that. Looks like I can get to 3.960 ghz safely on a 3.0 ghz cpu, but at this time it will thermal overheat until I get a heat sink. So for now I will run it at 3.510 max. Try that max speed against your quad. To get the temperature under control I am backing way down to 3.16ghz but for the moment with FRA stuff running it looks like I have to go down even further to 3.024ghz dc for the time being... wish it was cooler here... |

That is what is letting me pump the CPU so high. I got up just shy of 4ghz something like 3.97 or 3.98 but it was either memory locking up or cpu overheat, not sure, look at my thread in the 5.96 or 1.28 and read the debugger report, maybe I overspeed the design parameters of BOINC. Not sure, but it was a spectacular failure. Got 2-4 error windows from Windows. Reboot said fatal system error. Anyway I know my max. |

i just took the side plate off to expose the cpu to the outside air and can crank the speed up a bit more and lose 2C in tempature quieting the fan speed. still thinking about a heat sink if I can round up the money. think the guy was saying 800 rpm vs the 2360 I am running now. |

now running 3.284 ghz with the side off the computer and holding steady around the 72c mark. Fan is a bit loud (but then i am downloading a movie and web browsing while the cores are running at 100% already), but still very quiet. Hows that go with your big cruncher pengy? Am I getting close? |
