You could be right. I've been doing this for seven years and haven't made a dime. (But I've made many friends.) |

The fact that Rosetta@home and BakerLab is not for profit does not proclaim that noone ever seeks profit on pharmaceuticles. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

its not a credible statement.all the new drugs for cancer and many other diseases are over priced.in the UK.and advancements here or anywhere will eventually make someone wealthy Come on over to the US and buy some of those drugs. In Canada I can buy drugs for about half of what I pay in the US. The US Congress even made a law PROHIBITING the importing of drugs, so the drug companies profits won't be in jeopardy!! I have an HMO and can buy some of my prescriptions cheaper at WALMART than I can thru my HMO. Exact same drug, just cheaper thru Walmart!!!! Not just a dollar or 2 either. I pay $8.00 for a ONE months supply, thru mail order, thru my HMO, it is $10.00 for a 3 month supply at Walmart!!!! If I do a physical pickup at my HMO it is $20.00 for a one month supply! If you and I keep crunching and places like here keep giving away that research maybe the costs will come down. I sure hope so anyway!! |

The results of all these protein/genetics DC projects would end up with certain drug makers generating billions in profit and possible undeniable results include some thousands of people get healed or their illnesses get lessened. If any other outcome presented I would like hear it. |

Orgil, the drugs that drug makers make billions of dollars selling are those that they have patent protection for, and have spent billions of dollars on research to discover and test. The science produced by Rosetta@home is published for all to use. This, by definition, makes it unpatentable because published works demonstrait prior art, and to get a patent you must prove you go beyond prior art. So, rather then comparing to a multi-billion dollar patented drug that noone else has, it would be more realistic to compare to a generic drug that all drug makers know how to, and are allowed to, produce and sell. The other point to make is that patents generally only last about 20 years. After that, everyone can freely improve upon the patented technology. And in the big scheme of things, 20 years isn't very long if you are eliminating cancer or Alzheimer's. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |
