I am having a issue with the processing of Rosetta. It states 'reached daily quota of 3'.. I never had a issue before, why now? Since Oct 13th I havnt processed anything from Rosetta because of this message by the server. Please explain why? |

The quota is in place to prevent a host that is encountering errors on everything it touches from running through boatloads of tasks, and thus consume valuable project resources in the process. The quota starts out at 100 tasks per CPU per day, that should be plenty for any properly functioning environment. The quota is then reduced for each task that is returned with errors. If your message shows the quota is 3, it indicates you've failed 97 other tasks. Looking at your machine's tasks I see they are all ending in compute errors. Looking at the details of a few at random, I see this message consistently appears:
It looks like the problem began October 13, just before midnight GMT. Did you perhaps change some authority settings on that date? The user that BOINC is running under does not have sufficient authority to create a new process to get started on a task. Oddly enough, on the 16th there is a single task that completed normally. Is it possible BOINC was running under a different user account on that day? You are now only allowed one task per day until you resolve the authority problem on your machine. For each successful task returned your limit will be doubled, so it won't take you long to have all 3 cores busy once you figure out the problem. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Good point Sid, a new Rosetta version was released. It makes me think mfour should carefully review antivirus software settings. It may have "quarantined" the new application version. That's odd! The task that sat in the middle and ran normally seems to be gone now. I was going to check, I'll bet it was a task for the prior application version. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

It makes me think mfour should carefully review antivirus software settings. It may have "quarantined" the new application version. I have no idea if this is relevant either, but I was updating someone else's machine last week and noticed Windows Update offered Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) as a compulsory update (XP machine, not Vista or W7). If this was accepted it might mean 2 AVs are in use at the same time and either cause a conflict or quarantine Rosetta executables. It's worth checking because mfour's issue is getting no better :( |

Hmmm...I run 2 XP machines one running MSSE and one not, the one running it had some updates for MSSE come thru but the other one is running Avast and MSSE was not on the list of upgrades, I would have said no if it was though. That machine just likes Avast and since it is old it will just stay that way, it is running fine so I am not messing with it. However if it messes up I will upgrade it to Win7 and then put MSSE on it too, all of my other machines run MSSE. |

Maybe it was just a quirk on that machine, but if it's a possibility, I thought I'd mention it. Not a problem so far but I am now keeping my eye out for it. On most of my machines I have the auto updates turned off, and that one is one of those, so hopefully no surprises. |

Maybe it was just a quirk on that machine, but if it's a possibility, I thought I'd mention it. Sid, I do auto update on my computer.. in fact another one just updated..I will check out what firewalls or antivirus might be blocking that application.. It is a application or file?? |

I added the BOINC application to not go thru the anti-virus, and firewall.. I still get the error. What am I doing wrong? |

Since you have no tasks that are working right now why don't you just uninstall Boinc from the machine, turn it off, turn it back on and re-install Boinc? Or do you have Seti tasks that are working just fine? If so just detach from Rosetta and then reattach and see if that helps any. Also most of us just set it so our AV just ignores the Boinc directory and all its sub-directories too. If a virus or whatever comes thru Boinc A TON of us will have problems and you will see it noted here on the boards! |

Mikey, I am finding out that the computation error is due to 'permission denied'.. i will detach and reattach.. I hope that does it. |

Do you have multiple accounts on that pc? If so make sure each has permission to run Boinc! That also means NOT installing it as a 'service'. |

I detached Rosetta and reattached it, I still got the errors. Next I uninstalled BOINC and reattached the programs.. still got the errors. I dont know I am about to give up on all this, any help?? |

I did notice that BOINC creates accounts 'boinc_admin, boinc_users,boinc_projects' What I did was add those accounts to the program application. Maybe that has something to do with the problem? |

I was thinking more of Ted, Lucy and Alice all having accounts and Boinc trying to manage itself around them. I would not have 'added' them manually, Boinc seems to be able to take care of itself if you just install and run it normally. |
