i feel sorry for you guys, its a cool 68-70 here after a "heat wave" of around 80 in the past weeks.

i haven't felt 100 in a very long time and I seem to remember that the east coast is famous for its humidity levels to go with that heat. back at my parents place in the summer it might reach 100, but then humidity is something like 10% if that. very dry.

pengy - let me know when your taking off for pdx and sea.
i don't know all that much about pdx, but sometime ago, i gave you tips on what to see in sea. forgot to mention that you can tour the big plane factory up in mukiltio, and see the 747 line. they didn't show us the 777. 787 probably isn't part of the tour as these are smaller planes and not as interesting as the big baby. then go south and visit the museum of flight. it's half "boeing" museum and half aircraft museum.

of course, don't forget our tower of lawyers. told you about the observation deck. also read, but haven't been to the smith tower observation deck. not as high up, but much more historic.

maybe catch a football game if the hawks are in town.

found a place to unpack you krill in sea? if not, you might try the holiday inn express by seattle center. then your within walking distance of downtown where you can connect with any transportation mode to anywhere.

Think that was the deluxe level of wax and polish.
Probably cost him a days worth of begging money.

well from pdx you can rent a car and head out to tillamook (cheese factory tour is self guided and not all that exciting to watch. the old days were better) which is just a couple of hours west of downtown. you can go dip your flippers into some cold west coast ocean water not far from there.
think whale watching season might be in full swing as well.

theres some hiking stuff along the river you might be able to do.
to get around the region tri met will get you where you need to go via MAX (light rail) or buses. oh...out east of pdx about 90 mins to 2hrs drive is multnomah falls. depending on the water levels it might be a nice thing to go look at. SO would like it as there is plenty of sound to make up for the loss of visual. You can hike to the top and stop at the bottom of the upper falls on the way. there is a proper path to use to do the hike.

powells books in downtown is a huge store that is a bunch of connected buildings. they focus on used books mostly, some new. not sure what might be there for the SO given her challenges. For you, you can find just about anything you can think of there.

In OR the price is the price. No sales tax. something you see for 99 cents is 99 cents and not 1.08 or whatever with tax. so be sure to do your shopping there. there are a few shopping malls right around the downtown area. others are a hour or so away from town.

those are the major things i know of that are close in.

SEA is 3.5 hrs north. you can day trip it or save it for later, you can take AMTRAK Cascades service which has the same stops as coast starlight, with 3-4 trains in a day on top of coast starlight service, which can be significantly behind schedule.

So hope that helps.
Vegas...no krill payments allowed there, you have to find a exchange shop for krill to crab.
