Message 70544 - Posted: 12 Jun 2011, 10:42:07 UTC - in response to Message 70542.

Vegas...no krill payments allowed there, you have to find a exchange shop for krill to crab.

I spent two weeks in Vegas in April and can tell you do NOT gamble on the strip!! We went to alot of off-the-strip places and I was walking out with pockets full of money, I would put 100 bucks in a penny machine and walk out with 250 bucks in about an hour and a half!! Then I would quit it and walk over to a nickle machine put in 20 bucks and walk away with 60 bucks in just under 5 minutes! This went on for ten days like this!! The last 3 mights we stayed on-the-strip and I lost it all!! And I did not change my playing habits, I ONLY played slot machines, no table games, although off strip there are ALOT of 2 and 3 dollar tables at night now!! On the strip there is maybe one or two 5 dollar tables and they have lines but there are LOTS of 20 dollar and UP, UP, UP table games! The money being the minimum bet! We saw some 1,000 dollar minimum tables this time!!! That is PER HAND and of course you can double it if you want! The maximum we saw was a few tables of 100,000 maximum bet and those were at 20 dollar minimum bet poker tables.

I was there for only a few hours, they now have a zip line running most of the length of it that you can pay to ride on, and a stage with some girl singing, while reading the words on a laptop. But I put money in the machines and they kept it! I thought Freemont Street would be better for gambling too, but it isn't. The food was EXCELLENT and inexpensive, but the gambling was still coins and lots of time was spent digging them out when moving from one machine to another. LOTS of low minimum dollar to play table games though!! Off the strip is bigger so they have more, but I only saw a few tables that had the minimum bet above 20 bucks. I saw over half a dozen single deck black jack games though, most with the minimum bet of 5 bucks, and some with a minimum of 2 bucks. I was there in the middle of the day so that could change at night. years ago I stayed at a hotel down there, it was nice, quiet and cheaper than I thought it was going to be!

Circus Circus has the cheapest internet rate though, for less than 25 bucks a night for a room with a king size bed it is hard to beat. The buffet is large but the food is only average tasting, and that is where I lost most of my money in the machines!

greetings from san francisco!

yes, yes, i did travel from the east coast to portland, oregon... but after less than 24 hours in that city, i couldn't take it any longer... it just doesnt seem like a penguin type of city... and i booked a ticket for an oldie but goodie, san francisco... of course, on united, and of course, on the same day that they had that world-wide outage of their entire computer system... but after about 15 hours, i arrived in san fran at about 1 in the morning... planning on hitting another favorite, "The Stinking Rose"...

going to try eugene, oregon... and if that goes well, maybe i'll give portland another try...

i dunno, something about the pacific north west... but, seattle was ok the handful of times i was there... dunno...

how'd you do it, greg?

SEA and PDX are more laid back so to speak than NYC or DC.
Now if you think its rough in the spring, wait until winter.
Us PNW (pacific northwest) people like our outdoors during the good weather and love the semi big city. Now downtown rolls up and dies for the most part after 5pm with the exception of pricy restaurants and movie theaters and the performing arts. I don't know how I did it, but I can tell you the Eugene has less going for it than PDX does.

You didn't say what you didn't like about PDX, so you have to tell me and then maybe I can explain. It's hard to say. I guess its also like we can't understand how you can live like a sardine on an island and call that home. Great to visit, but not to live.

in eugene, or... the whiteaker section... like stepping out of a time machine back into the late 1960's... penguin is off-kilter, not certain what to make of it... always thought it would have been cool to "come of age" in late 60's... but uncertain about all of this...

I see they named him "Happy Feet" and Sea World said they would provide him a home if he needs one. Apparently he has been eating sticks and sand and is very hungry and until surgery was not in good health!

silly, weren't they? their original plan was to just sit back and watch, and not interfere... noble intentions, i suppose, but what did they expect?... couldn't order room service with out a phone, so sticks and sand it was... now that they've gotten worldwide bad publicity, its pull out all the stops...

so anyway, am in seattle, heading back to east coast tuesday...

greg, any plans to visit this side of the ocean before end of summer? like to do a gathering of all of us before i head to tx... otherwise, maybe just get a chance to hang with mikey over lunch or some such...

our clam fund is depleted from last years spending spree, so no jet planes for us this year. next year is looking better. will make plans then. nice to see you on this side of the big pond though.

did you visit boeing aka boing lol?
jimmy hendrix grave site is up on capital hill somewhere. never went there.
don't forget the towers, the big black monolith and the old typewriter building.
don't waste your money on the needle, been reading the cooking staff needs to learn how to cook and the price gouging is pretty bad. Take a bus to go up on queen anne and go to kerry park where all the talking heads do their stand up with the downtown in the background. great view from there.
take the winslow ferry around an hour before sunset and when your coming back from there you can catch seattle skyline at sunset.
save your krill money and ride either the shuttle express van (think it is $18 plus tip for them) or the shuttle bus (picks up from specific major hotels and costs not to much) or if you don't have to many bags leave a bit early from downtown and take the light rail to the airport. Those are all cheaper than a cab fare.

For grub, try the hurricane restaurant. it's a bit slow on service, but the music is good, the food is cheap and it comes in nice sized servings. its a 24hr joint. a good burger can be had over on lower queen anne by seattle center at a place called kidd valley. there is also a local place called dick's drive in. fresh spuds and local meat served up 50s diner style. limited number of locations.

those are just some highlights.
have fun in the emerald city.

hard drinks are shut down at 1:55am (last call) and no alcy can be purchased or served after 2am. you want the fire breathing stuff, you have to go to the state liquor store.

I would think giving it some fish and other actual food would perk it up a bit!! I also think he is going to squawk a bit as it gets rid of the sand, kind of like sitting on sand paper back there! You would think they would just flush water thru it while it was snoozing! A friend of mine has a dog, they took his intestines OUT OF HIS BODY, flushed them, and then put them back in again, talk about EXPENSIVE!!! A WHOLE lot more than I would have spent on a dog, and this one is a 'rescue' dog too!

I like going to the ball games when the team I am there for wins!

you forgot the tower?
did you see the monk fish on display at the pike place fish market?
those are the flying fish boys on the corner by the pig.
should have had a small serving of mini doughnuts while you were there in the market.
plus you should have looked at all the magazines at the front corner of the market.
I should have told you about two observation areas there.

Oh well, you will just have to hitch a ride on a jet plane and come back when we get back there next year. Then I will have my usual debate (depending on the ticket cost of open jaw vs round trip) of which location to goto first, PDX or SEA. But that is a long ways off still. Of course there is my interest to go back to DC and NYC to look at things a little more closely than last time. But again that is a debate for later.

Hope you had a fun time in SEA. Good to know the M's one at the "safe" as they call it. It's a shame that the veteran broadcaster died a few years ago, I would have suggested you tune in to the radio. I don't know how the now "veteran" broadcaster sounds. Anyway, I digress.

Be a good penguin now, we don't need to see any black and white stripes ruining your tuxedo.
